the Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 23638
Straits Setts SB120-23638r.jpg

This specimen was lot 23638 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. Cent, 1874. London Mint. Victoria. NGC EF-45 Brown. Above average for the type, with gentle even brown patina and no obnoxious marks." The type was struck in 1872-83 after the Straits Settlements were made a separate crown colony and is scarce in nice condition despite the very large mintage. It was converted to bronze for the 1884 issue (KM 9a) and given a reeded edge for the 1889 issue (KM 16).

Recorded mintage: 10,000,000.

Specification: 9.3 g, copper, plain edge, 28.8 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-9.
