The specimen is one of a type issued at Madrid 1728-34 and 1740. This type was also minted at Segovia and Seville. Milled coinage commenced in Spain in the 1580's but was not introduced to Latin America until the 1730's, soon after this specimen was struck. All the early eight reales of Spain are rare and expensive.

Specification: 27.47 g, .903 fine silver, .785 troy oz ASW.
