Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 249
This specimen was lot 249 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €230,000 (about US$303,531 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1724. Luis I. Segovia. F. 8 escudos. Bellísima. Brillo original. Ex Áureo & Calicó Selección 2013, nº 199. Ex Colección López Chaves, nº 699. Moneda exenta de pago de tasas de exportación. This coin is exempt from any export fee. Extraordinariamente rara y más así. Sólo hemos tenido otros 3 ejemplares. S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Louis I, eight escudos of 1724, Seville mint. Exquisite, original luster. Extraordinarily rare, we know of only three examples, about uncirculated.)"
Only a few gold coins were minted during Luis's short reign. Of the Spanish issues, we note a two, four and eight escudos from Segovia, struck 1724 only.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 26,99 g.
