Aureo sale 232, lot 155
The specimen shown was lot 155 in Aureo y Calico sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 1,300 € (about $2,145 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1710. Madrid. J. 8 reales. Anv.: PHILIPPVS. Escudo con lises grandes. Buen ejemplar. Rara. MBC+. (Eight reales of 1710, Madrid mint; large shield, nice example, rare, choice very fine.)
This type was issued at Madrid and Seville 1704-13. The succeeding type featured a larger crown. All the early eight reales of Spain are rare and expensive.
