This specimen was lot 4066 in Goldberg sale 80 (Los Angeles, June 2014), where it sold for $6,435. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Solms-Laubach. Taler, 1770-WWE. Christian August, 1738-1784. Capped bust right. Reverse: Pyramid. In memory of the founder of the Solms-Laubach line. Reflective surfaces with original brilliant mint luster. NGC graded MS-63." This specimen was lot 744 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,232.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Solms-Laubach. Taler, 1770-WWE. Christian August (1738-84). NGC AU-58. Lovely old envelope toning. Just a touch of wear on the high points of the bust of Otto I, founder of the Solm-Laubach line. Nice strike and very attractive. From the Rockaway Collection." Another rare issue from this obscure locale in Hesse.
