This specimen was lot 689 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. Saxony. Taler, 1790-1EC. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Friedrich August III (1763-1806)." On the death of emperor Joseph II, the elector became vicar of the empire until such time as a new emperor could be elected. This thaler was issued to commemorate the occasion. Another vicariat thaler would be needed in 1792 ([[Saxony 1792-IEC thaler Dav-2700|Dav-2700]]).
