This specimen was lot 1377 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIAN EMPIRE: Nicholas II, 1894-1917, AR 5 kopecks, 1905, a superb example! NGC graded MS66." This type is listed for 1867-93 and 1901-14. The nineteenth century dates are scarce in nice condition but the later dates are common with, of course, the exception of the proofs. This particular mintmaster issued regular circulation strikes 1901-05. In 1914, Russia plunged into World War One, which conflict would lead to the destruction of the regime.
