The specimen shown is a copper-nickel peso struck 2003-17. This piece has a face value (January 2010) of about two cents and was first issued in 1995. It was converted from copper-nickel to nickel plated steel in 2003. The obverse is the portrait is of Dr. José Rizal, whose martyrdom was the spark of the independence movement against Spain in 1898.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 5.4 g, nickel plated steel, 24 mm diameter.
