Philippines 1995 2500 piso
The second specimen was lot 3118 in Goldberg sale 32. This is one of the less common issues of the nineties. It commemorates the visit of Pope John Paul II to the Philippines, the only Catholic country in Asia. Like many countries, many of the inhabitants are only nominally Catholic but everyone was happy to throw a big party for a distinguished visitor. Along with this denomination, silver 100 piso and 200 piso and a gold 5000 piso coin were issued, all with the same design.
Recorded mintage: unknown but not common. The SCWC recorded 1,000 minted for the silver 200 piso.
Specification: 7.98 g, .917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: KM 266.
