This fifty centavos piece was one of a series of coins issued to move Peru into decimal coinage. It replaced the four reales familiar since colonial times and was, in turn, replaced by the half sol. It is relatively uncommon and a two-year issue.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 12 g, .900 fine silver, 0.1808 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 179.2.
