Aureo sale 242, lot 136
This specimen was lot 136 in Aureo & Calicó sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for ___ € (US$___ including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos II (1665-1700). 1687. Lima. R. 8 reales. (Ex Ponterio Enero 2002, nº 1952, mismo ejemplar). Redonda. Tipo ´real de presentación´. Doble fecha. Perforación, habitual en estas piezas. Rarísima. MBC. (Charles II (1665-1700), eight reales of 1687, Lima mint, round, two dates. Holed as usual, extremely rare, very fine. This specimen is from Ponterio sale of January 2002, lot 1952.)"
Cob eight reales were struck at the Lima mint 1684-1700 for Charles II of Spain and became the "pieces of eight" of pirate lore. Specimens with legible dates bring triple those without and round "royal" specimens are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .931 fine silver, .810 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: Cal. 218, Lázaro unlisted, KM R24.
