Mexico 1870Ga 2 escudos rev DSLR.jpg

The specimen shown was struck in Guadalajara. Altho the issue of two escudos ceased in 1870, assayer IC is reported for the Guadalajara mint during 1869-77. Rollo[1] notes this date as "relatively common." The author notes one die marriage. The dispersal of a small hoard makes this one of the few dates available in nice condition. Two escudos as a group are nearly as scarce as the four escudos.

Recorded mintage: est. 1,344[1].

Specification: 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 380.3.
