from Stack's Bowers November 2015 sale, lot 42597
Mexico SB1115-42597r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42597 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1850-PiMC. NGC AU-50. The finest graded example at NGC with none seen so far at PCGS. Struck from worn dies, most of what might be attributable to wear may well be from manufacture. Very pleasant overall color with virtually no marks in the fields." Ten mints (Mexico City, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guanajuato, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Zacatecas, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 13.54 g, .903 fine silver, .392 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-375.8.
