This specimen was lot 23348 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1839-MoML. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Sharply struck with bright surfaces. RARE date, only 2 examples have been certified by PCGS and NGC combined. Tied with one example at NGC for the finest graded of the date." The Mexico City mint struck half escudos 1825-63 and 1868-69 and is the most common mint.

Specification: 1.69 g, .875 fine gold, .049 troy oz AGW.
