Mexico 1839Go 2 reales rev DSLR.jpg

Shown is an 1839GoPJ two reales, one of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1825-68. Assayer PJ is recorded at this mint for the years 1834-42. Other mints include Zacatecas, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Guadalajara, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a common date of a common mint. For some reason, only the reverse image was available, but the eagle shown is distinctive to the Guanajuato mint, which reverted to the standard eagle in 1843.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.76 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 374.8.
