Mexico H3041-31412r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31412 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $3,525. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1816 Mo-JJ MS62 NGC, Mexico City mint. Choice Mint State with essentially full mint bloom, a sharp strike and a few scattered surface abrasions preventing the Choice designation. A most attractive example, rare in this quality and a suiting representative of this popular type for any advanced quality-minded cabinet. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This type was struck 1814-21 and is rather scarcer than the preceding type of 1809-12 with the imaginary bust.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-52, KM 161, Onza-1266.
