Kiribati, formerly the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, is a group of coral islands in the Pacific. Kiribati received her independence from Great Britain in 1979. It was the scene of some of the fiercest battles of World War Two. This design was reissued in 1992.

Recorded mintage: 25,000 plus 10,000 proofs.

Specification: 5.20 g, bronze, 21.6 mm diameter (same module as an Australian 2 cents.
