Welcome to CoinFactsWiki!
We'll write our own condensed help soon that hits on the most important points of editing this wiki, but in the meantime you can use to find all the info you'll need on the software (plus a bunch you probably don't!).
Editing a Wiki is easy and fun. You do not need any special software to edit a Wiki page. In all but a few cases, if you can see the page on your computer screen, you can edit it.
Be sure to log in before performing any editing functions.
To edit a page, simply click on the edit tab at the very top of the page. When the "edit" version of a page appears, you'll see lots of unusual characters. These are used by the Wiki to format the page. By switching between the saved version and the editable version of the same page, you'll soon learn what a lot of the symbols mean and what they do.
As you edit, take advantage of the Quick Editing keys that appear at the top of the page. Mouse-over the buttons to see what they do: Bold, Italic, Internal Link, etc.
Experiment as much as you like until the page appears to your liking. Be sure to hit the Save key at the bottom of the page before leaving, otherwise all your work will be lost.
Below are a few tips to help you with frequently asked questions:
How to Post Images
- Click “special pages” on the left toolbar
- Click “upload file” about halfway down the page on the right (or you can go directly to http://www.coinfactswiki.com/wiki/Special:Upload)
- Choose your file, and give it a filename and summary for the wiki
Once the image is uploaded, you can add it to a post with [[image:PCGS_Logo.png]] for an image uploaded with a filename of PCGS_Logo.png. The filename is case sensitive.
Or, a much simpler way:
Include [[image:filename.jpg]] for an image you haven’t uploaded yet in an article you’re editing, then after saving the article, click the created link to easily upload that image.
How to Create an External Link
To create an external link, simply place the URL of the external page within brackets. To create alternate text for the link, add text within the brackets, immediately following the URL address. Separate the URL address and the alternate text with a space (otherwise the URL address will not work).
How to Create a New Section on a Page
To create a new section on a page, place two equal signs (==) immediately before and after the title for that section. This will make the title appear in bold letters and will place a separation line beneath the title for that section. Placing three equal signs (===) immediately before and after the title for that section will have the same effect without the line.
