Sedwick sale 9, lot 1602

This type was struck 1772-76 at Guatemala. After the earthquake of 1776 leveled the town, production resumed at the new site in 1779 with a new mintmark, "NG". This specimen was lot 1602 in Sedwick sale 9 (Winter Park, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $276. The catalog description[1] noted, "Guatemala, bust 2 reales, Charles III, 1772P. Broad-flan Fine with some toning around details."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.8 grams.
