This specimen was lot 24163 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $7,637.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Victoria Proof Crown 1887, Jubilee Head, PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS, a fabulous coin with pristine surfaces, glittering mirrored fields, a truly lovely frosted portrait, and vivid deep blue and pinkish gold iridescence. Rare grade. An elegant coin!" This specimen is from a type was struck 1887-92 in some numbers but is rather expensive in nice condition. It is called the "Jubilee" crown as the bust of queen Victoria was introduced in 1887, the fiftieth anniversary of her reign. The type is common but proofs are rare.
Recorded mintage: 173,000 plus 1,084 proofs.
Specification: 28.27 g, .925 fine silver, .840 troy oz ASW.
