from the Stacks Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 20532
Germany SB818-20532r.jpg

This specimen was lot 20532 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. 5 Mark, 1929-E. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Oaktree. Pale golden tone with soft luster in the fields. A much better date of this popular type with a relatively low mintage of 860,000 and a value in the Standard Catalog of World Coins of $2,400 in MS-63. From the Keystone Collection." This type was minted in large quantities 1927-32 from six mints yet is today scarce. It seems likely most were melted without ever leaving government vaults.

Recorded mintage: 860,000, a rare date.

Specification: 25 g, .500 fine silver, 37 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Dav-966, KM-56.
