Sincona sale 26, lot 3155
This specimen was lot 3155 in Sincona sale 26 (Zurich, October 2015), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$432 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Louis Philippe, 1830-1848 1 Franc 1841. BB, Strasbourg. Selten. Vorzüglich. (France, Louis Philippe, 1830-48, one franc of 1841, Strasbourg mint. Scarce, extremely fine.)"
This issue, from the Strabourg mint, is a typical scarce branch mint issue of a type struck 1832-48. This design, by Domard, replaced the Tiolier bust type struck 1831 only. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises 118 date and mintmark combinations, many very rare. The entire production run, 1832-48, totaled about 18.1 million pieces. The production of French five franc pieces in the same period was 289 million. This date is priced about triple the commonest dates (1845B, 1846A or 1847A).

Recorded mintage: 59,488[2].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, .900 fine silver, reeded edge. Designed by Joseph François Domard, 1792-1858, this specimen 4.99 g.

Catalog reference: Gadoury 453. F.210/86, KM 748.3.
