Jean Elsen sale 83, lot 2092
France 1746Pau demi ecu JElsen 83-2092 rev.jpg

This specimen is a demi-écu du Béarn au bandeau struck at the Pau mint in France in 1746. It was lot 2092 in Jean Elsen sale 83 (Brussels, March 2005), where it sold for 125 euro. The Pau mint (mintmark "cow") struck this type 1741-70; all dates are scarce. It receives a separate catalog number from the other mints because of the variant obverse legend. Droulers[1] prices this date about double the common date such as 1746-W or 1767-L.

Recorded mintage: 51,508.

Specification: 14.74 g, .917 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, obverse legend LUD.XV.D.G.FR.ET NA.RE.BD. (instead of NAV.REX).

Catalog reference: Dr/4 no. 828a, Dr/2 no. 585a, KM 521.
