This specimen was lot 20394 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Louis d'Or, 1653-D. Lyon Mint. Louis XIV (1643-1715). NGC MS-61. Pale gold colored with gleaming surfaces that display little evidence of past contact and a strike that is just short of complete." This louis d'or à la mèche longue is among the more available louis of Louis XIV.

Recorded mintage: 39,866[1], a better date.

Specification: 6.75 g, .917 fine gold, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
