Jean Elsen sale 141, lot 1213
This specimen was lot 1213 in Jean Elsen sale 141 (Brussels, June 2019), where it sold for €160 (about US$212 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANCE, Royaume, Louis XIV (1643-1715), AR quart d'écu, 1644K, Bordeaux. Frappé au marteau. D/ Croix fleurdelisée. R/ Ecu de France couronné, entre II-II. Belle patine. presque Superbe. (kingdom of France, Louis XIII, 1610-43, silver quarter écu of 1644, Bordeaux mint, struck by the hammer. Obverse: floriate cross; reverse: crowned arms of France divides the value. Nice patina, about Extremely Fine.)"
This type was hammered at the Bordeaux mint 1643-47 and this is a fairly common date. Hammered quarter écus were made as late as 1652.
