The coin shown is a silver ten para, from the reign of Sultan Abdul Mejid. It was struck at the Cairo Mint. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the denomination written below (abbreviated as the letter P for para) with the number 10 above. A crude floral design sits right of the toughra. The reverse carries the ascension date and the text ''minted in Misr'' (''Misr'' is Arabic for [[Egypt]]). The date is written as AH 1255 year 15, which translates to about 1853 AD. Uslu<sup>[1]</sup> lists this issue as very rare. 

The example shown was sold as part of lot 13247 on Sept 9, 2004 at the 2004 September (HWCA) Signature Sale #357, for $115. The catalog description reads:  "Abdul Mejid Silver 10 Para 1255AH, a date collection comprising: Years 3, 6 (two), 7, 9, 14, 15 and 18. Grades range from Fine to VF-XF, a few with small dents or scratches. Sold as is, no returns lot. From the Lake Pearl Middle Eastern Collection."
