A Commemorative Coin is used to observe or pay tribute to an important event, special occasion, or milestone in history. Most are considered non circulating and are minted as collectible items only and sold at a premium above face value. Coins that have a commemorative theme and intended to be used for commerce are considered circulating commemoratives.
