This specimen is one of a type struck 1875-85 at the Bogotá mint. It is about the size of a half dime and the last five centavos struck in silver. This coin is listed very cheaply in the SCWC but, like many minors from Colombia, does not turn up that often. There is a similar design (KM 174a.2) from Medellin but it is extremely rare.

The country adopted its current name, "Republica de Colombia," in 1886. Five centavos coins from the later period are all base metal.

Recorded mintage: 220,000.
