Colombia 1853-P 1/4 real

This specimen is one of a type struck at the Popayán mint 1849-58. Colonial quarter reales of the "Lions and castles" type are known from the Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) and Popayán mints for 1796-1819 (KM 63, KM 67). Cundinamarca quarter reales of debased silver are known for 1814-15 (KM F2) and 1820-22 (KM 79). Republican quarter reales (including KM 85 and this type) are known for 1826-58. None are common, particularly in nice condition; this date is listed in Restrepo at one hundred times the catalog value given in the SCWC.
