CNG Lissner sale, lot 1450

This specimen was lot 1450 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $3,327.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Republica de Nueva Granada. 1830-1859. AR 2 Reales. Bogotá mint. Dated 1843 RS. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Mottled moderate toning with wonderful strike. Probably the finest known and by far the highest graded. Purchased from Freeman Craig, July 1976." This type is recorded for 1837-48 from Bogotá (shown here) and Popayán and is supposedly common. This date is not priced in uncirculated but this specimen realized thirteen times the catalog value in XF.

Specification: 5.5 g, .666 fine silver, this specimen Ø25 mm, 5.02 g, 6h axis.
