This type was struck 1838-46 at Popayán only. The Bogotá mint restricted itself to gold pesos and sixteen pesos during this period. This specimen was lot 40347 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1842-VU 2 Pesos. Popayán mint. EF-45 (PCGS). Light yellow gold with contrasting toning around the design elements and die swelling behind the portrait. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Manfra, Tordella, and Brookes, May 1980."

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
