This specimen was lot 12151 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1839-RU (sic) 16 Pesos. Popayán mint. AU Detail — Mount Removed (PCGS). Medium yellow gold with orange toning and a plethora of light scratches and scattered hairlines. Some luster remains and the eye appeal is still quite nice. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian and Ecuadorian Coins. From Manfra, Tordella, and Brookes, June 1968." This type, struck at Popayán 1837-46, replaced the earlier eight escudos (KM 82.2) and is identical in size and weight. It was also produced at Bogotá. Assayer RU (= UR) is listed for 1827-41.

Specification: 27.07 g, .875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
