This example is a debased silver one real struck for REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA from 1827-1834 at the Popayán mint. The initials RU correspond to the assayers. The region was renamed Republica de Nueva Granada in 1837. This specimen was part of lot 44086 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), which sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. A trio of nice VF 1 Reales of Restrepo Types 153 and 154, all graded by PCGS. Included are 1829-RU. Popayán. VF-35; 1833-RS. Bogotá. VF-30; 1833-RU. Popayán. VF-35. (Total: 3 pieces). From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins."

Recorded mintage: unknown but a slightly better date.

Specification: 3.1 g, .666 fine silver, .0663 troy oz ASW.
