This specimen was lot 40003 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1758-J Escudo. Popayán mint. Ferdinand VI (1746-1759). AU-53 (PCGS). The first milled Escudo issue of Popayán. Lovely light yellow gold with flashes of reflectivity and a good bit of surviving luster. The dies are bulged, limiting the crispness of central detail, but no major problems are seen. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This specimen is one of a series struck 1756-59 at the Nuevo Reino (Bogotá) mint and 1758-59 at Popayán.
