This specimen was lot 22442 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. 100 Yuan, 1988. Endangered Wildlife, Series 1. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Features the Golden monkey. A proof issue with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices. Sold with original display case and certificate of authenticity #16518." Other endangered wildlife featured in this format include the yak (KM 151, 1986), the tiger (KM 255, 1989) and the mountain sheep (KM 456, 1992).

Recorded mintage: 29,000 proofs.

Specification: 8 g, .917 fine gold, 0.234 troy oz AGW.
