This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1879. It is a common date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. Overdates abound for this series; the SCWC records 1879/8 and 1879/69 for this date.

Recorded mintage: 780,000.

Specification: 25 g, .900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
