Ponterio sale 177, lot 12064

This specimen was lot 12064 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 6,400 Reis (Peca), 1801-B. NGC MS-63. Maria I (1786-1805). Mintage of only 12,037 pieces." This type was struck 1789-1805 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.

Recorded mintage: 12,037.

Specification: 14.34 g, .917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW.
