Sincona sale 59, lot 3141
This specimen was lot 3141 in Sincona sale 59 (Zurich, October 2019), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$182 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, Batzen 1824, Bern. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Switzerland, canton of Bern, batzen of 1824, Bern mint. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This type was struck 1818 and 1824 and is fairly common in circulated condition. It is catalogued as a batzen altho the coin is marked as a 4 kreuzer. Ten batzen made a frank and four franken made a thaler. The last Bernese coin is a rappen dated 1836. The confederation of 1848 ended cantonal issues.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: billon, this specimen 2.60 g.

Catalog reference: D.T. 40b. HMZ 2-236c, KM 177.
