Sincona sale 50, lot 1033
This specimen was lot 1033 in Sincona sale 50 (Zurich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Bayern, Kurfürstentum. Karl Albert (Karl VII.), 1726-1745. Dukat 1739, München. Zwei Löwen halten das mit dem Kurhut bedeckte, vierfeldige Wappen mit Mittelschild, umher die Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies, darunter die Kette des St. Georgsordens, zu den Seiten der Krone 17 - 39. Rv. Madonna auf Wolken, von Strahlen umgeben, mit dem Jesuskind im rechten Arm. Selten. Attraktives vorzügliches Exemplar. (Germany, Electorate of Bavaria, Charles Albert (Charles VII), 1726-45, ducat of 1739, Munich mint. Obverse: Two lions hold the quartered arms with an escutcheon and the Order of the Golden Fleece around, including the chain of the Order of Saint George, to the sides of the crown the date; reverse: Madonna on clouds, surrounded by rays, with the baby Jesus in her right arm. Rare, Attractive extremely fine specimen.)"
This type was issued 1737 and 1739. It is rare but not the rarest Bavarian ducat of the reign.
