This type was struck 1953-74 for the Portuguese colony of Angola on the west coast of Africa south of the Congo. Altho its mintage is average for the type, this date is awarded a substantial premium in the SCWC. After a protracted struggle, Angola obtained its independence in 1975 and then dissolved into civil war as various factions contended for control.

Recorded mintage: 6,008,000.

Specification: 3.5 g, copper-nickel, 20 mm diameter.
